Welcome to 2008
2007 was a banner year for Anthology, we held more events, had more audience, and impacted more lives with the literary arts than ever before. We also managed to upgrade a few things around here, like the Fanzine (I hope anyway :).
More from me later, but we have alot to cover, so let's get to it!
New Faces
We have a new email communication coordinator, please join me in welcoming Arrian Wissel to the group. Arrian will be handling the email communication for Anthology events going forward. You should expect a monthly larger email from her with some smaller weekly reminders to help you stay in the know.
Anthology has a volunteer coordinator for the new year, please join me in welcoming Christy White to the family. If you would like to have your name added to her database of people interested in volunteering, please send her an email: cchristy1@prodigy.net.
As we note below, we are also welcoming Jeremiah Blue to Anthology as the host of the Downtown Poetry Slam. Jeremiah is an energetic and involved poet and organizer in the community, and it's a pleasure to have him working to better the literary arts in the community.
Finally, we are adding a new Promotion Specialist to the fold, Kat McCoy. Kat been on the ground many times promoting poetry in the valley, and it's an exciting development to get her involved in organizing a cohesive, effective street marketing strategy.
As you can see, we have been busy, busy, busy getting ready for 2008, and as we gain momentum this year, we are looking to be far more effective than in 2007, and 2007 was a banner year for us!

National Slamoff Qualifying Process
It's that time again, for the drama, the competiton, and the poetry to see which poets can make the grade to see how poets qualify for the 2008 Anthology National Slamoff. Since 1996, Anthology has coordinated a team of performance poets to attend the National Poetry Slam, a weeklong event sponsored by Poetry Slam, Inc. featuring the best poets from across the country in a single, performance event.
The process is open to any poet, and poets begin the process simply by showing up to one of the two qualifying events:
The Downtown Poetry Slam
The South Scottsdale Poetry Slam
Based on their attendance and performance, each poet earns points toward a cumulative total. As of April 30th, the 10 poets with the highest cumulative total qualify for the final event, the 2008 Anthology Slamoff.
If you attend the Downtown Poetry Slam, you may earn points as follows:
1 Attendance (not competing)
1 Hosting a Show
1 Each Round you qualify for as a poet competing (ie. 3 if you slam all three rounds in a three round slam).
2 (additional to rounds) if you finish 3rd in the slam.
3 (additional to rounds) if you finish 2nd in the slam.
4 (additional to rounds) if you win the slam.
If you attend the South Scottsdale Poetry Slam, you may earn points as follows:
1 if you slam in every round you qualify for.
2 additional if you finish 3rd in the slam.
3 additional if you finish 2nd in the slam.
4 additioinal if you win the slam.
Placement points are not cumulative.
